The " ARFkids" Visiting Pet Assisted Therapy Partner Program
The ARFkids Visiting Pet Assisted Therapy Partner Program consists of individuals dedicated to making the lives of people confined to hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice care emotionally better through regular visits by a Certified ARFkids Pet Assisted Therapy Dog.

ARFkids Visiting Partners also visit schools and present entertaining and structured Responsible Dog Ownership Programs certified by the Rin Tin Tin® Canine Ambassador Club.
The ARFkids Visiting Pet Assisted Therapy Partners Program currently has dogs visiting nursing homes, hospitals and hospice care centers in Michigan, Louisiana, Texas, California, and Maryland.
The ARFkids Visiting Pet Therapy Partner Program places a puppy from the Authentic Rin Tin Tin® bloodline with the "Partner" individual who raises and trains the dog to completion of the AKC Canine Good Citizen (AKC CGC) and Therapy Dog International Certification (TDI). The "Partner" will have full ownership of the ARFkids dog during the training process.
ARFkids does, in certain situations, provide the opportunity for an applicant to Certify, through the ARFkids Visiting Pet Assisted Therapy Partner Program a dog they currently own that has already achieved the necessary requirements (AKC CGC and TDI). ARFkids has, through this option, Certified several Lassie line dogs for the program. For additional information regarding the rquirements for this option, contact the ARFkids office.

Application Procedure
Once the application has been received, members of the ARFkids Preliminary Placement Review Committee will contact you to discuss your particular situation and determine if an ARFkids Dog and the ARFkids Visiting Pet Assisted Therapy Partner Program is appropriate for your situation. The members of the ARFkids Preliminary Placement Review Committee will answer any questions a family may have.
Once the ARFkids Preliminary Placement Review Committee has recommended an applicant be approved, a vote by a majority of the ARFkids Board of Directors will be necessary to place the applicant on the waiting list for the next available litter. Once an applicant has been placed on the waiting list they will then be required to submit the placement donation of $1,000 for an ARFkids Visiting Pet Assisted Therapy Dog Partner Program Candidate Puppy.
The ARFkids waiting list is generally significantly shorter than many organizations and placement usually occurs within one year of approval.
ARFkids does require the applicant to travel to the ARFkids facility in Crockett, Texas to take possession of the ARFkids Visiting Pet Assisted Therapy Dog Program Candidate Puppy and participate in the final stage of the Trainability/Temperament Tests conducted when the Rin Tin Tin puppies are 8-12 weeks of age and ready to go to their new families. The final testing events are scheduled well enough in advance to allow families to make appropriate travel arrangements. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the recipient family.
